We all know that Burgerville is the best fast food money can buy. When I say this people like to throw in their two cents about how In-N-Out burger is way better. I just shake my head in amazement. I then ask them if they have ever had a Burgerville cheeseburger with extra spread. They say No. I just look at them sadly.
I like that Burgerville uses range fed beef, raised with no antibiotics or hormones. They compost their waste products. They use 100% wind power for all their chains and headquarters. They allow bicyclists to use the drive through window and their slogan is "Choose Fresh, Local, Sustainable. Choose Burgerville." I don't know how they do it, but those cheeseburgers have a unique taste I have yet to see duplicated or matched. Their veggie burgers are amazing, and that is a rare find.
But high quality comes at a price. I took my brother-in-law there a while back and when they told him his total, he asked where the white table cloths and candles were. Still, when I am in town, I never miss it.
Scott took all of the kids to see a movie the other night. Jodi and I found ourselves alone so we decided to go get Burgerville. We each ordered a cheeseburger basket with onion rings. We also ordered my nephew two cheeseburgers. It came to $20.00. I thought she read it wrong. We got to the window and I asked her how it could possibly be that much. She just glared at us. I asked her if there were diamond rings included. She said it was $3.00 more to upgrade to onion rings. But they are just onions I pointed out. "WELL, THEY ARE WALLA WALLA ONIONS," she told me. I told her I have grown onions out of the ground and they are not that rare or priceless. Jodi handed her my debit card. She tried to take it from her but Jodi held on. They had a little tug-of-war before Jodi gave in. The manager came over to oversee this little transaction. I asked if we could get less onion rings to bring down the price. He said they were $1.50 per ring! So I took two off. He walked away angry, the girl helping us couldn't figure out how to change the order. "Oh just leave it, I don't want to be high maintenance" I said.(haha) While we waited Jodi told her how sorry we were for making her feel responsible for the high price of onions. She admitted to us it was a daily hurdle to explain to people why Walla Walla's were so expensive. It got old, she told us.
When our order came out it was missing onion rings. The manager said, "You said you only wanted THREE not FIVE!" I calmly told him we didn't want to be difficult, so we left it as is. He stomped off with his tongs to collect four more rings. "Don't worry," she said. "They are HUGE!"
I told Jodi that they couldn't be THAT expensive. Jodi suggested we swing over to WinCo to see how much they were per pound. Just for kicks. We marched over to the onion display. $1.28 per pound. Each onion weighed about one pound. Just as we suspected...you could get a lot of rings out of one Walla Walla.
We were taking pictures of me and the onions when a guy strolled up with his plastic bag. Other people were wondering what the big deal was. You usually don't think of Walla Walla onions as something exciting. We stopped and stepped aside so the guy could get his onions.
"No go ahead," he told us.
"No, no, no....you go ahead, I don't want you to watch while I get my picture taken with these onions," I said.
I then went on to say that we had a really good reason for doing this. He said he was sure we did. He then started choosing his onions. "You know, these are the best onions you can buy," we told him. He smiled. I then went on to tell him the WHOLE story of our Burgerville trip and how we came to be here, taking pictures for my blog. I told him to google MY KITE DREAM and he would see it was the truth. I asked if he wanted to be in the picture. He said, "Don't involve ME in this." It was too late. Jodi snapped a picture while I was expaining away.
We laughed about it all the way home. We told Scott and my Dad about it. All we got were courtesy laughs. We were told, "I guess you had to be there." But we didn't agree. We thought it was hilarious. My nephew told us were were strange. Jodi asked him, "Who would actually go take pictures with onions at WinCo?!"
"Nobody," he said. Well, there you have it. That in itself is funny.
Oh, and the onion rings really were worth it.
Slices of my life. Thoughts, hopes, dreams, and crazy encounters with the general population.

BGHS Tigers....20 YEARS.
I am heading down to Vancouver for my 20 year Reunion. It came a bit too fast. I remember thinking this milestone would take forever to arrive. But it actually feels like I took a couple of steps, turned around, and there went twenty years.
I have been thinking of High School and all of the things it was to me. My main focus was Choir and all that surrounded that. We had amazing times on those choir trips. I am surprised none of us got killed. We had a lot of freedom. Mr. White treated us like peers more than anything. I am afraid to bring any of the things we did up for fear my children will read this. I still get teary eyed when I think of us standing in that circle, in classrooms, gymnasiums, banks, rest homes, swimming pools, meat lockers, Disneyland, Canada, and anywhere else our choir happened to be.....singing the Irish Blessing. I am sure each and every choir member remembers that with the most tender heart.
My other love was Cheering. So what if it's not a sport??? It was a blast. I loved the excitement of the band playing under those bright lights. The players busting through the Run Through that we worked all day making. I loved my name...MIKKI .....painted on the front of my box. It just sat there waiting for me each Friday night. We were there for a common goal...to beat Prairie. I loved the bonfires we had before games when we would throw the Lumberjack into the flames. (Do they still do that?) I loved our big hair, and our Black and Orange leg ties....dancing to ACDC. I believe we were the only cheerleaders who did routines to "Shook Me All Night Long". Is it me....or was Battle Ground just way cool?
I loved that ramp down by my locker, and the full length mirror outside the bathroom...usually covered in lipstick. I remember the gummy worms stuck to the ceilings...I remember getting duct taped to a bike rack the first day of Freshman year....I remember the awe inspiring feeling of finally stepping into the Senior Lounge. I had a crush on Mr Blue, and Mr. Rinta. (I even asked Mr Rinta to a dance, but he politely declined. haha) I adored Mrs. Williams and was always AMAZED at the effortless way she walked in her heels. Mr Franklin was so sweet, and the algebra teacher who will remain nameless freaked me out to no end. Mr. Bruner was brilliant, and Mr. White was.....priceless.
I had the greatest friends. We had the best of times. We just didn't know how fast it would slip away.....we didn't know what a precious time it was. Just a tiny slice of our lives, but monumental.
I wish we would have had digital cameras back then. I hardly have any photos, unlike kids these days who have every second captured from birth on. And I cannot imagine how much fun it would have been to have cell phones! How did we survive without them???
I guess I better go finish packing. I honestly didn't think I cared too much about this reunion. But I am getting a bit misty eyed thinking of everyone I get to see. Facebook takes a bit of the surprise factor out, but it adds an element of anticipation. For instance, I can't wait to meet Mary McCorkle, and I hope and pray Mike Palensky brings that adorable little Lucy to the picnic on Sunday.
See you all Saturday......Go Tigers!

I'm back...are you there still?
I needed to take a break to refocus. I needed some time with very little pressure to do anything other than the most necessary of tasks. I really miss writing. I have been waiting for the perfect post to start up again....it's not happening. So this is it. This is my perfect post. I think I will add the lyrics of two songs that have been in my ear for weeks. Over and over I have heard them. There were times they got me through each day.
I have come to know two things.
1) God does love like a hurricane.
2) He is the Lover Of My Soul
That's it.
How He Loves Us
He is jealous for me, Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.
And oh, how He loves us oh
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us all
He is jealous for me, Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.
And oh, how He loves us oh,
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us all
He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.
And we are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If His grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
And heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss,
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about, the way…
That He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.
Yeah, He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.
Yeah, He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.
Dance With Me
Behold You have come over the hills upon the mountain
To me, You will run. My Beloved, You've captured my heart
Won't You dance with me, Oh
Lover of my soul,
to the song of all songs?
Romance me oh Lover Of My Soul
to the song of all songs,
With You, I will go You are my Love You are my Fair One
The winter has passed and the springtime has come
Won't You dance with me, Oh
Lover of my soul,
to the song of all songs?
Romance me oh Lover Of My Soul
to the song of all songs...

Rishi's Gift Foundation
Above is Rishi singing the song "I am " composed by Rishi Nair and Mateo Messina for the Symphony of the Superhero.
How do I describe Rishi? He is a vibrant, talented sweet boy who loves music and people.
We belong to the same home school community as his family. It's a wonderful group of people who share a common goal. To educate their children and provide them with wonderful, enriching experiences along the way. We were a part of one of those amazing "moments" last night. Beau played his bagpipes for a Rishi's Gift benefit concert. As I stood in the back at all of the familiar faces gathered together to support this effort I got a bit choked up. I know these people truly care for each other and it is so precious.
Rishi was born without functioning kidneys. He spent most of his young life attached to tubes....I remember him having to sit out while the kids on our group would run, swim, play. He always had a smile to share. He had such a great attitude. I have to smile when I think back to all of our talent shows at our school. Rishi loved to perform and always managed to steal the show. He has loved music since I have known him. I am so proud of him and his family for putting that love of music into helping others.

His Mother gave him one of her kidneys three years ago. I look back on that and get teary eyed as I remember Mary Lynn's determination and strength through out it all. They have turned a difficult situation into an opportunity to bless others. They raise money for children who battle medical hurdles. They offer them a little piece of "joy". A chance to rest a little from their battle. A chance to smile and be happy.

ChaCha
Tayler, Kyle and I were standing in the kitchen discussing Sponge Bob. I mentioned the fact that he wears glasses. Kyle told me he didn't think he did. I was sure of it. Tayler grabbed her phone and started texting. I didn't know she could surf the Internet on her phone. She told me she wasn't. She was texting ChaCha. She hit send and set her phone down.
"Who is ChaCha?!" I asked. She said she has shown it to me before. I kindly disagreed. Kyle told me that there were people just sitting there waiting to answer questions. I couldn't believe it! How did I not know about this??
Do you all know about this? Am I that out of the loop?
All of a sudden the phone buzzed. The text said: "Sponge Bob wears glasses, but only while jelly fishing."
I couldn't believe it. So I asked Tayler what the number was. 242242.....ChaCha. I had to try it out.
I asked them, "Who coined the term "Blog" ? Within one minute I had my answer. Jorn Barger. It started with the term "Web Log" and went from there.
I for one think this will be handy. I can't wait to use it while standing in a circle of people when that "little answer" has slipped every one's mind. I will come to the rescue using ChaCha! In fact, I will just make up a reason to text them!
